With world leaders gathering for the COP26 meeting in Glasgow, Mumbles Community Council wants to support our residents and businesses to do their bit to help tackle the climate emergency. The solutions are many and varied, and we know we can’t fix this problem alone. Mumbles Community Council does not have all the answers! But that’s where you come in.

Perhaps you have an idea for how we can reduce waste, or have identified a particular spot that could be the home of improved biodiversity. Perhaps you know what would encourage your neighbours to travel greener, or to reduce the amount of energy or water they consume. Maybe you just think we need to raise awareness of a certain issue and have an idea of how we can do that effectively.

MCC is making funding available for up to five community-led projects to tackle the climate emergency, reduce carbon and improve the wellbeing of our local environment. If you have an idea which you think would benefit from such funding we'd love to hear from you. It may be something small that just requires £100 to become a reality, or you might have a bigger-scale idea in mind, in which case you can apply for up to £5000. Funding can go towards the purchase of equipment, resources, staff time and other reasonable expenses.

Unlike most grant funding, this funding is available to anyone living or working in the Mumbles area – you don’t have to be a constituted charitable organisation. This is because you won’t receive the money directly, Mumbles Community Council will spend the money on your behalf, based on your ideas. So, whoever you are, if you have an idea for Mumbles, we want to hear from you.

Please send an outline of the project idea, including the outcome(s) that you would expect to see and the anticipated costs to plasticfree@mumbles.gov.uk. If your idea is shortlisted, we will be in touch to discuss it further before Full Council considers it. Please note that all projects will need to be approved by Full Council before they can begin.
