Mumbles Community Council (MCC) are delighted with the success of their free family fun days which have been running this week with another two taking place next week. Councillors and staff have worked tirelessly to bring local parks to life with bunting and entertainment for all ages. More than 75 families have benefited from the first two events alone.

MCC received a £2,000 grant from Swansea Council as part of their Summer of Fun initiative. Using those funds, four family fun days were organised within the wards of Mumbles: Fairwood Park, Highmead Park, Mumbles Hill and Castle Acre. MCC also received a Community Grant of £400 from the West Cross Co-op and donations of snacks and drinks from Swansea Community Fridge, meaning free picnic lunches were able to be provided for all children.

On Monday 2^nd August at Fairwood Park activities included mountain boarding, multi-sports, and a treasure hunt, while at Highmead Park on 4^th August youngsters were able to attempt a climbing wall. There was also an organised bug hunt at both events.

Plastic Free Mumbles had a stand to encourage litter picking and ran a ‘design a cup’ competition as part of their #pickupyourcup campaign to get people using reusable coffee cups.

On Monday, 9^th August there will be a nature walk on Mumbles Hill as well as music and storytelling. Finally on Wednesday 11^th August at Castle Acre there will be mountain boarding and multi-sports again, as well as an inflatable adventure run and another treasure hunt taking in the Community Orchard and the Sustainable Mumbles Urban Green Spaces (SMUGS) project.

Vice-Chair of Mumbles Community Council, Cllr Rebecca Fogarty commented, “It’s fantastic to see so many families enjoying the wonderful parks in Mumbles. We wanted to encourage families to visit green spaces they may not be so familiar with, and we hope they’ll come back after having a great time this week. We know the pandemic has been tough for children and young people so Mumbles Community Council is doing its bit to make this a real Summer of Fun. I’m looking forward to welcoming more families to Mumbles Hill and Castle Acre next week.”
