NHS, Social Care & Frontline Workers Day

On Monday, 5th July, Mumbles Community Council hosted an event to commemorate NHS, Social Care and Frontline Workers Day at The Ostreme in Mumbles.
The sun shone, and guests were entertained by a brass quintet playing tunes such as ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’. HM Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan, High Sheriff of West Glamorgan and The Lord Mayor of Swansea were a few of the dignitaries who attended. They laid wreaths and HM Lord Lieutenant unveiled a plaque in respect of all those who died during the pandemic. This was followed by a two-minute silence at 11am.
Chair of Mumbles Community Council, Cllr Dr Martin O’Neil said, “Today is a day to honour these everyday heroes and also to remember those who have sadly lost their lives due to this horrendous pandemic and the sorrow and pain this has caused their friends and loved ones. We know that the pandemic is not over yet and there may well be challenges in the future but today is a day to give thanks for the wonderful contribution of our NHS and other frontline workers and remember those who have sadly lost their lives.”
Vice-Chair, Cllr Rebecca Fogarty commented, “Having chaired the MCC Covid-19 Community Response Team, I’m pleased to now have the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the amazing support offered to local residents in need during the pandemic by volunteers in our local community. Mumbles Community Council is proud to have played its part in coordinating this aspect of the response. Working shoulder to shoulder with NHS, social care and frontline workers, volunteers answered MCC’s call to deliver food, prescriptions and other essential items to residents who were not able to leave their homes. In that sense these people joined the ‘front line’ and their contribution has been very much appreciated by those who benefited from their support. “
